Who are we?
Research Institute
The ICARE research institute (Institut CAntonal de REcherche) was created in 1991, in Sierre (Valais – Switzerland), on the initiative of the Sierre School of Computer Science. Its members, represented on the committee, include the State of Valais, Sierre Region, the municipality of Sierre and the HES-SO Valais-Wallis. He works in the field of information technology. Its ideal goal is to contribute to the economic development of the Sierre region and to encourage the creation of innovative companies in Valais. It participates in national and international research projects and collaborates with the HES-SO and other educational and research institutions. It focuses on the design and creation of software based on cutting-edge technologies in several research areas, such as: artificial vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile and multi-platform implementation, as well as connected objects capable of communicating and interacting with multiple high-value online services. As a research partner accredited by Innosuisse and a partner of The Ark Foundation, the Icare Research Institute aims to be a facilitator, enabling applied research projects to lead to functional solutions on the market.
Digital transformation at the heart of our research
The Icare research institute focuses its work on the future needs of companies by developing skills and know-how. Future IT technologies are developed and implemented through complex research projects. To carry out these projects, Icare relies on multidisciplinary teams made up of key players in the scientific world from our universities and from industry. This approach allows research results to be rapidly transformed into pragmatic solutions for companies. Digital transformation is quite a challenge for our SMEs. It brings with it its share of uncertainties, complexities and redefinition of internal company processes.
It accelerates the transformation of organisations to make them more flexible and customer-focused. These changes create new spaces for innovation and the involvement of everyone in a company, from managers to receptionists. For several years, the Icare Institute has been able to integrate these multiple success factors to transform a technology into a real solution for its partner in the economy. In order to offer all the business skills necessary for an in-depth digital transformation of companies, Icare has forged academic alliances and scientific partnerships with recognised players in the various fields of application. In healthcare, for example, the development of complete systems to provide personalised medicine requires close collaboration with specialised integrators.
